Porto, situated on the Douro River, is the capital of the north and the second-largest city in Portugal. It is now a World Heritage Site and has been the center of the Port wine trade for years. Rabelo Boats in Douro River, Porto. Rabelo boats are the traditional Portuguese cargo boats used to transport Porto Wine. This is an intriguing city where historic buildings and magnificent churches rub shoulders with picturesque old quarters. From our centrally located hotel, we’ll have historic-monuments-in Porto time to explore Porto and the surrounding areas on foot, which is always the best way to fully appreciate the city and the nearby countryside! From here we invite you to come with us and explore the unknown coast south of Porto and the beautiful beaches along the Atlantic. Póvoa de Varzim - historically a fishing port and ship-building center during the Age of Discoveries - is a popular ocean resort with 12km of stunning beaches. People have been coming here to bathe in the iodine-rich waters (from the local seaweed) since the late 19th century. Vila do Conde is a lovely seaside town located at the mouth of the River Ave famous for its traditional boat building and lace making. The traditional old town retains its small fishing port and there are a number of historic buildings to enjoy, including the Convento de Santa Clara, once known for its conventual sweets - delicious sweets that can now be bought in cafes around town. Porto Douro River creates a unique look of Porto Walking the coast south of Porto along boardwalks and promenades will get us the chance of acquainting with small, unknown, and surprising places like the traditional fishing village of Afurada.
